What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for positive behavior interventions and support. It is a framework designed to support students by teaching and encouraging good behavior in students. The goal of PBIS is to create a school climate that encourages and supports students to practice good behavior throughout their day through explicit instruction and modeling of those behaviors we seek to have students emulate. PBIS is prevention, not punishment. It guides teachers and support staff with proven and effective methods that help teach students positive behavior, how to avoid unsafe behaviors, as well as how to address unsafe behavior throughout the school day. The framework seeks to help students by normalizing good behavior until it is just that; normal.
